Handling of funds remaining after termination of banking relationships

On 15 October 2026, amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism and Proliferation Financing entered into force. These amendments establish the conditions under which funds belonging to former customers that remain with the bank after the termination of business relationships will be transferred to the State.

Who does this affect?
If your accounts with the bank are active and you continue to use them, these changes do not affect you and no action is required.

This information applies only to a small proportion of former customers who meet all of the following conditions:

  • The customer is a legal entity, regardless of the country in which it was established, or an individual who is not a resident of Latvia.
  • The bank terminated the business relationship with the customer on its own initiative in accordance with the requirements of the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism and Proliferation Financing.
  • More than five years have passed since the termination of the business relationship, and funds belonging to the former customer remain unclaimed with the bank.
  • The funds are not frozen, seized or subject to enforcement proceedings.

If you do not meet even one of these conditions, the relevant legal provision does not apply to you.

What do you need to know?
If you meet all the conditions outlined above, you retain the right to claim your funds until 16 April 2027. After this date, you will lose the right to reclaim these funds from the bank, and they will be transferred to the State.

How can you claim your funds?
If you believe the conditions above apply to you and wish to claim your funds, please contact the bank as soon as possible to arrange for the funds to be transferred to an account with another bank before the statutory deadline.

Once you have contacted the bank, we will inform you of the documents required and the procedure for receiving your funds.
